Abstract
The article makes a comparative analysis of the state form between the constitutions of 1863 and 1886, helped by the historical context, to show critically the realities of what the federal state and the central state have meant in Colombia and how partisanship It has disfigured these concepts, affecting the proper sense of the regions and the characterization of the Colombian nation. It is concluded that federalism and centralism still remain points of debate and that democracy and citizen participation must be allowed to be the way to understand one or another concept of the state.
